M.Sc (Medicinal Chemistry)
Overview

Medicinal Chemistry is a multidisciplinary domain being offered with an intersection of organic, biological and pharmaceutical sciences. Building on your existing knowledge of these areas, this program will prepare you to design through computational methods, synthesis, isolation, and characterization of biologically/pharmacologically active compounds as a potential new pharmaceutical. Our M.Sc (Medicinal Chemistry) degree course aims to render advanced skills in molecular medicine and recent advances in pharma-technology. With emphasis on research, our university offers the right environment and infrastructure. Our faculty is engaged in computational drug design, identification of new biologically active compounds and natural products with therapeutic value. We blend conventional disciplines to conduct research in computational drug design, organic synthesis, biological evaluation, and assay development. After this program, the students will have the right skills, knowledge and qualifications for a successful career in academia, allied medical field, research and industry.

Program Objectives

The objective of M.Sc (Medicinal Chemistry) is to give a comprehensive training to postgraduate students to empower them with the knowledge of discovering, designing new or repurposing therapeutic molecules. It is an opportunity for students after B.Sc. in chemistry, life sciences who want to opt for a career in the Pharma-field.

M.Sc (Medicinal Chemistry) provides; both conventional and innovative approaches to resolve the problems associated with therapeutics. Here, we offer a blend of bioinformatics, computational modelling, organic synthesis, molecular medicine, Omics etc., to understand the advancements in the field of medicine and also cater to the field of personalized medicine.

Unique features of the program
  • Experiential Learning: Students acquire knowledge through participation in laboratories for individual bench-work, classroom exercises, and through critical reading and analysis of current scientific literature.
  • Biocomputing: Courses focusing on bioinformatics, bio-modeling, and omics in biology, with an emphasis on pharmacogenomics, provide students exposure to evolving technologies and developments in this emerging field.
  • Flexibility to Choose Between Industrial or Research Opportunities: The program provides one and a half semesters for projects, allowing students to choose between industrial training, laboratory research, or a dissertation. Students may opt for a specific field to gain deeper understanding and emerge as specialists in their chosen domain.
Program Outcomes:

After this program a number of opportunities would open for these students as they will be ready for a variety of jobs in the Pharma industry.

A Master in Medicinal Chemistry is expected to have an understanding about the use of multidisciplinary approaches to solve any complex problem of drug industry. Mandatory teaching and training activities in this program therefore aim to provide students with integrated knowledge in the basic yet advanced modern and upcoming trends in the Pharma industry. Ultimately; the graduates will be able to develop methods with biotechnological advances and improve conventional technologies or come up with a new strategy.
