Our program of Bachelor of Arts in Journalism & Mass Communication is one such uniquely designed program to balance foundational learning with applied knowledge as per the evolving trends of the media industry in India and abroad. At our School of Media & Journalism (SMJ) at DYPIU,we prepare our students to meet this growing need while at the same time ensuring ethical conduct and quality in their work.
B.A. Journalism & Mass Communication (B.A. - JMC) program at DYPIU is a three year full-time program conducted through coursework divided over six semesters. The coursework is built on a strong theoretical foundation complemented by hands-on training on traditional as well as new media practices. The balance of 50% theory and 50% practicals is what we follow at our school. In the final year of the program,students have an opportunity to choose a discipline of interest from those offered and build their expertise accordingly.
Considering the ever changing technology and the National Education Policy (NEP),our program has made itself ready to be at par with this. That is why we also provide subjects like Artificial Intelligence (AI),Virtual Reality (VR) and many in this list in combination with the Digital Media field to make our students future ready and compete with their peers in national and international scenarios. To add this,we have introduced the blended learning of Advanced practical subjects and the subjects in humanities and social sciences that imbibe the ability of critical thinking in students.
The classrooms and media labs are equipped with the latest technology and software in the media industry and provide unlimited access to students for learning and projects. The program is also flexible for adaptation to online teaching as required without any impact on the quality of teaching and learning. The learning and reading material is also easily accessible through the university library or the teaching faculty members.

Post completion of BA (JMC) program,the students will be equipped with the knowledge and essential skills required to make a successful career in various media organizations as per varied audience needs. They will be able to project themselves as the skilled media professionals at par with evolving industry standards.
B.A. JMC curriculum aims to provide a very strong foundation of Journalism, Mass Communication, Mass Media, Advertising, Public Relations, Video Production, Media Research and other Subjects. The students will learn key roles and functions of the mass media industry. This will enable the students to become empowered to undertake responsible managerial positions in the Government,Private and Public sectors,or self-employment ventures and at the same time making them socially relevant and responsible.

The regular study tours and Industry visits to TV Channels,Newspaper Press,Ad Agencies along with various field work activities give the students hands-on experience of what they are learning during the course.
Real Time Experience:
Our Media School is equipped with Modern audio-visual facilities for training in print and electronic media. The dedicated Media Studio and a Media Lab with advanced software give our students the real time experience of learning the tasks handling the challenges themselves.

The coursework is accompanied by extensive industrial exposure to students through multiple internships and guest lectures of industrial experts. Parallelly,students learn more through faculty-led research and industrial projects in which they frequently get assistantship opportunities. Our school has also built strong linkages with several media companies at national and regional levels and boasts of an excellent employment record of the graduates of our program. The quality of our program and the hard work of our students also reflects in the many job offers to them at the end of their internships.
The Training and Placement Cell at DYPIU is an integral part of this course. Training & Placement activities are organized at the end of every academic year and the campus selection programs are scheduled. Various Reputed Media companies that include Newspapers,News channels,Ad Agencies,Content Creating Platforms etc across the country visit SMJ for campus recruitment programs. In order to enhance the employability quotient of the students as demanded by industry,the Training & Placement cell provides the much needed training to the students to hone their employability skills. These training programs give the students tips on how to crack aptitude tests,group discussions,interview skills and resume preparation.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:
Passed (10+2) or equivalent examination from any recognized board with minimum of 45% marks (40% for reserved category candidate as per Maharashtra state government rules) or equivalent grade.

Tuition fee - Rs. 60,000/- per semester
Registration fee - Rs. 2,500/- per semester
Caution Deposit - Rs. 10,000/- (Refundable at the end of the program)

Q-5 What is an internship?
Ans. An internship is a time-bound attachment to industry or to an industrial project for exposure to students. Internship is a wonderful opportunity to gain hands-on experience and to learn more about the real-world applications of an academic discipline. We send our students to various big media organizations for Internships after which the host organizations sometimes offer full-time employment to our students in their respective disciplines. All students are required to complete at least one internship during this three-year program.
Q-6 What kind of grooming programs are offered to the students?
Ans. We organize classes and workshops to help the students to develop soft skills,career prospects,media writing,resume writing,interviewing skills,presentation skills,and anchoring skills. We also organize panel discussions,news reading,group discussions,debates and news analysis activities in classrooms to make the students prepared for taking on critical jobs in the industry. In addition,we send our students for field reporting. Our students regularly participate in various programs conducted by other institutions and organisations.

Ans. To provide the students with a holistic knowledge about the discipline of media,B.A. JMC course engages its students in an array of academic projects such as designing structuring television news (e.g.,news feature,journalistic interviews,chat show),documentary and short fiction film-making,ad-film making,public relations campaigns,development communication,scripting and executing various television entertainment programs,photojournalism,newspaper and magazine designs. Moreover,students are exposed to academic research as well. At the end of the course,students conduct their independent research studies and complete their dissertations under faculty guidance.

Ans. Yes. The Hostel facility is available for students. Apart from the hostel,there are also accommodation facilities like PG available in the nearby area of the university.
