Humanity. Very commonly used word and rarely applied act. What is humanity? It is the quality of being human. Logically, being human means not being an animal. Simply because apart from humans we only have other species like animals and birds around. Let us ask ourselves are we human beings…or animals? I know that is harsh but let’s take it for some time. The qualities of humanity are kindness, love, generosity, being gentle, not hurting others, etc. Do we have them? If we have them, are we genuine towards the qualities or we have them only to fulfil our benefits, or until our work is done? Be it in any context. Let us ask ourselves.

Lord Rama; The best example of Humanity.

Lord Ram, the 7th incarnation of Lord Vishnu on earth; said to be most noble and humble beings of all times, and the one who possesses half of Shiva’s powers. Lord Rama is the absolute example of humanity. Let’s find out how?

1. We all know Lord Ram killed Ravana and won the battle. While coming back to Ayodhya, He said “I don’t want to go back to the kingdom. I want to go to the Himalayas and spend some time in the cave of Agastya Muni because I regret it as I have killed someone, who was a great devotee of Shiva, a phenomenal scholar, a great king, a generous man.” The others were shocked. Lakshmana said… Lakshmana, his brother, said, “What are you saying? Ravana kidnapped your wife.” Therefore, Rama said, “See, those are the other nine heads. In the other nine heads of his, he had greed, jealousy, lust, all kinds of things. However, there was one head, which had great wisdom, knowledge, devotion. I regret taking that head. I would have liked to leave that head alone, not kill the man. However, there was no way to do it, so I had to do this. But I have a sincere regret that I took away that one head.” Rama is trying to say. “It doesn’t matter, he did so many horrible things, and those are the other nine heads. But that one head I saw of tremendous possibility but unfortunately, I had to take that.”
2. He never lied.
3. He never expected the other person to speak first. He always smiled and started the conversation.
4. He never remembered what he gave to others.
5. He never thought about his greatness.
6. If someone did many misdeeds to him but only one good thing in life, he will only talk about the good thing.
7. If someone criticizes him, he listens to his disappointment and educates softly to remove his misunderstanding.
8. He was a well-wisher not only for his people but for every creature on earth.
9. He was pleasing.
10. He saved anyone who surrendered to his feet no matter how much harm that person had caused to him.

From where does the journey of Humanity start?

The quality of Humanity does not imbibe overnight. It is a process. Since birth, whatever we see, hear, and observe around us, gets collected in our subconscious mind. Be it is something positive or negative. It gets stored. One of the biggest reasons to imbibe humanity is through the upbringing. We become what we see around us. Who can be a better example than Dr. Prakash Baba Amte son of Baba Amte. He is a social worker and a social activist not just because his father was a social worker. Because his father nourished, raised or cultivated his son with those qualities from the tender age. Dr. Prakash Amte has seen, heard, and observed the work that his father has done for humankind. His childhood was a learning journey towards humanity. Parents play a very important role in feeding their children with the qualities of humanity.

A man asked a small kid, what you want to become once you grow old. a Doctor, an Engineer, an Architect, a policeman, an artist, a Chef, or a businessman?  The kid answers “None of these” the man says “ok so you want to become someone different?” the kid says “no no…it’s not someone different, it’s very common but no one these days wants to become one” the man says “Oh please tell I am curious” the kid smartly answers “a good human being” A 5-year old kid made the man speechless as the man was in total agreement with the kid.

Humanity is a step towards your happiness.

Half of the problems in the world will be solved by having the qualities of humanity. The wars between nations, politics, poverty, global warming, fights in families, violence, robbery, murders, animal killing, etc.

Let me share a surprising fact about the country of Norway which is in southern Europe. Criminals in this country are never punished as ‘life impressments’ or ‘hanged to death’ the maximum punishment of the criminal is 21 years of impressment. The reason for this law is that people in this country think – ‘Everyone deserves a second chance’ even if it’s a criminal. This is humanity. Were we are continuously thinking about punishments revenge, people here give second chance to criminals too.

Once you start being humble, kind, and positive as a person, the negative thoughts are eliminated from your mind giving away to positive ones. Now, your mind and heart know that you are not hurting anyone anymore. Ultimately, the people around you are happy. Once they are happy you start feeling the happy vibes too. It is rightly said, “If you want to be happy then keep others Happy.” Life has very simple logic…we, as humans are busy creating our own logic, which has no logic.

Humanity is functioned in us by God!

We are all here to enjoy and take care of the beautiful creation of God. Could we ever think of a better creation? God has given his best shot. It is we, who are unable to give justice. It is not about being good to all. We already do that perhaps; it takes a lot of effort to pretend to be good to all. Isn’t it? We have forgotten our basic nature to be who we are. It’s about our intension. The creations of God like a tree, the tree never thinks that I should stop giving oxygen. A Sun never says I should stop giving light. Simply because they are bang on playing the role that God has allotted them. We are miserably misusing the role given to us by God.

We all have goals in life, we have plans for our future, we all want respect in society, make a lot of money, fulfil family wants, be successful, achieve dreams, etc. But we should not do this at the cost of Humanity. If nature never forgets its functioning, we shouldn’t either.

      Takeaways:

  1. Be Kind and humble to every creature on this earth be it your family, friends, colleagues, animals, birds, poor or unknown.
  2. Be good to your enemy too (Because the enemy is just someone with whom you disagree upon something).
  3. See, hear, and observe only good things. Remember they are getting stored in your mind.
  4. Spread happiness with humanity, it is a better option than spreading gossips or negativity.
  5. The only function we have to follow is to be in the role of a human being and keep doing good deeds. Rest all God will take care of.
